Third Thursday

Den tredje torsdagen i november flyttade TT till Berlin för att mingla med kollegor utanför Sveas gränser. Gränsöverskridande aktiviteter visade sig mycket passande då Berlin uppmärksammades världen över för murens fall för 20 år sedan.

Nio personer från Sverige följde med och de flesta inkvarterades på ÏMA Design Village, ett jättekollektiv (på hela 10 000 m2) för kreatörer. Om ni besöker Berlin kan vi definitivt rekommendera detta ställe. Kolla in hemsidan på http://www.imavillage.com Allt från leksaksfabriker och reklambyråer till dansstudios rymdes under ÏMAs tak. Stället fullständigt bubblade av energi och kreativitet. Ballerinor skuttade runt medan vi serverades frukost till sent på dagen. På ÏMA arrangeras mötesforum och events, bland annat huserar Pecha Kucha här (http://www.pecha-kucha.se). Vi fick möjlighet att tillsammans med drygt 30 Berlinbor (interaktionsdesigners, informationsarkitekter, grafiska designers, universitetsfolk) mingla med rykande glüwein och populära energidrycken Club-Mate i handen.

Det var mycket intressant att diskutera vad som händer på UX-/ID- fronten i Tyskland. Bland annat sker mycket arbete med att etablera kommunikation mellan telefoner (läs: iPhone) och bilar. Mercedes Benz lanserar möjligheten att öppna bilen via iPhone. Mini Cooper går så långt att de visar varningsmeddelanden (t.ex. bältespåminnaren) i iPhonen. Whitevoid grundaren var också på plats och berättade om interaktiva installationer som kan skådas på www.whitevoid.com De söker just nu praktikant - ett tips för de studenter som är inne på vårt forum! I Berlin arrangeras ett TT-liknande event som kallas Hot Strudel. Utöver nöjet att träffa kollegor inom vårt område från både Sverige och Tyskland hann vi avnjuta mat på trevliga kaféer, promenera på turkiska marknaden i Kreuzberg, besöka gallerior, gå ut på klubbar som fortfarande trotsar rökförbud och se staden på cykel. Vi besökte också det magnifika Teufelsberget utanför Berlin, en övergiven avlyssningsstation från 60-talet som byggdes av den amerikanska spionorganisationen National Security Agency. Byggnaden användes idag av grafittikonstnärer, men varje färgglad vägg skvallrade om det kalla kriget. (Om man fascineras av övergivna platser är ett lästips att kolla in boken ”Övergivna platser” av Jan Jörnmark).

Att Berlin är en av de mest spännande städerna i Europa befästes efter denna resa. Det är en öppen, kreativ och intellektuell stad som ger utrymme för många alternativa livsstilar. I varje hörn finns en bit samtidshistoria, samtidigt som staden sprudlar av nytänkande och framåtanda. På gator med neonupplysta snabbmatsställen och gaybarer samsas kvinnor i burka med trendiga ungdomar. Den avslappnade och multikulturella stämningen utgör en fantastisk grund för nya möten och idéer.

Amors pilar träffade oss under resan. Vi förälskade oss i varandra och i staden och vi kommer definitivt att köra en TT-repris någon gång i framtiden då vi åker till någon annan spännande stad och träffar fler trevliga kollegor. Vi hoppas att fler personer följer med då!

Interaction Designer

As a member of our User Experience (UX) team, you will collaborate with visual design and tech teams to create compelling websites, as well as other units using our user-centered design process. As a member of this agency, you will be forced to think outside the box. Where the box is probably not a box – but most likely a small room packed with creative geeks.
While you have a keen eye for, and are up-to-date with, visual design and understand the importance of aesthetics from a usability perspective, you value structure and sound interaction principles over the latest trends. You know that in order to break rules and standards, you must first know them. You have a wide range of prototyping tools in your toolbox, ranging from comfortably sketching with pen + paper to wireframing and more elaborate interactive prototyping. Which tools you use are less important, but if you use Omnigraffle for wireframing, and Flex/Flash (AS3) for prototyping you’ll have plenty of co-workers to ask for help.
Part from the extensive list below – people around you will more or less take for granted that you are nice, smart, open minded, hard working and someone to rely on when the team is travelling in warp 14.1 – but also that you’re someone who’s available to sit down and discuss just about anything.
Responsibilities:
• Research and prioritize user requirements and functional requirements.
• Develop information architectures and taxonomies for web-based applications and sites.
• Conduct usability roasts in order to identify opportunities for improving information architectures and interaction patterns.
• Prototype navigation models and interaction designs for demonstration internally as well as to clients.
• Document and communicate design and function specifications.
• Perform usability testing of proposed designs.
Qualifications:
• Structure, method, and a desire to simplify interaction/work flows are your cornerstones in everything you do.
• A degree in a relevant field (Cognitive Science, Technical Communications, Human-Computer Interaction, Graphic Design, Industrial Design).
• Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.
• High tolerance for undefined requirements and ambiguous briefs (and a matching desire to structure and organize them).
• A desire to work in a highly creative and collaborative environment.
• Deep understanding of usability heuristics and principles – and a documented experience of applying them successfully.
• Knowledge and experience of rapid wireframing.
• Knowledge and experience of (at least rudimentary) prototyping of interactive flows.
• Work samples/portfolio including sitemaps, wireframes, user flows is a must.
• The ability to clearly communicate ideas, decisions, and reasoning to a non-technical audience is vital; because lets face it, you’re a new breed of thinker and we are counting on you to lead the way and make it as accessible as possible.

Experience Lead (Stockholm)
The HUGE process starts with development of the product’s conceptual model–understanding exactly who the users are and describing and ranking their goals and behaviors. Every project at HUGE includes substantial time for research and experimentation, phases that are conducted mainly by Interaction Designers.

Responsibilities:
Select research processes and other tools, and participate in user testing or fieldwork as needed
Partner with Senior Clients to determine product’s mandate, feature set, and measures of success
Develop user personas, scenarios of use, task analysis, interaction models, and experience briefs
Oversee creation of wireframe mock ups, functional prototypes, and other artifacts
Collaborate to determine product/website strategy
Collaborate with HUGE teammates and HUGE clients to ensure that your great ideas survive the development process
Collaborate with Project Manager and Engagement Director to create: road map and strategy plans
Be a part of an award-winning team, contribute to our process and shared knowledge
Humanize everything you touch: help users experience the joy of discovery
Requirements/Qualifications:
5+ years experience creating interfaces, large scale websites, or appliances
Desire to prove you can lead a team producing the best work in the industry
Full understanding of how to apply the methodologies of interaction design and user research to website and product development
Tendency to lose sleep over how to remove the need for annoying “Cancel” buttons
Proven client management skills
Solid writing and visual communication skills
Familiarity with usability heuristics and relevant HCI literature
Knowledge of InDesign or other tools for generating wireframes and behavior specifications
Ability to play nicely with other highly talented types
The precision of an artist and the passion of a scientist
This role will be based in Stockholm, Sweden. The successful candidate will be an EU citizen and have experience in both the US and Europe. This person would be required to start asap.
